Rivers state has the highest number of missing permanent voters card. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Rivers, about 14,000 PVC’s have been snatched and stolen.<br />
<br />
Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Gesila Khan, disclosed this on Friday, January 30, in Port Harcourt, saying that some of the missing cards were stolen at the local government collection centers where they were kept to be distributed.<br />
<br />
She appealed to those with the cards to return them, stressing that they were useless to the thieves. She said the electoral body was going to make use a new device called card readers to identify owners of PVC before they can be used to vote.<br />

An unidentified man was lynched in Kano, Nigeria on Friday following suspicions he belonged to the deadly Boko Haram sect. According to reports, the attacking youths said the man arrived at the area with what looked like an explosive material and a gun.<br />
<br />
He was subsequently spotted by a group of youths who chased him from Karkasara down to the Central Mosque where he was rounded up and eventually stoned to death shortly before the commencement of Friday prayers.<br />

This 15 year old girl [pictured above] has been declared missing by her family. Her name is Paulina Ojeka Ogwuledwu and as reported by her Uncle, a pastor at a Baptist Church in Ogba, Lagos, Paulina, an indigene of Benue state, was last seen on Wednesday, January 14 2015.<br />
<br />
She resided with her Uncle in Ogba and is an apprentice at a fashion shop in Ogba. On the day she got missing, Paulina had gone for her training and returned in the evening but later left the house for some reason and refused to return ever since.<br />

Former Miami Dolphins running back, Rob Konrad, swam nine miles to shore after falling off his boat while he went fishing.<br />
<br />
Konrad, 38, swam the equivalent of 290 lengths of an Olympic-size swimming pool right after his 36-foot boat (which was on auto pilot), drifted away from him off the South Florida coast.<br />
<br />
The US Coast Guard reported that his friends got worried after he failed to show up for dinner. Konrad was later found on-shore and got treated for hypothermia symptoms after spending up to 12 hours in the water.<br />
<br />
He played 82 games for the Dolphins between 1999-2004.<br />

This Dog was found at a subway in Scotland with a suitcase containing his personal belongings. Reports have it that Boko Haram militants may have kidnapped 18 female soldiers in Baga, Borno State, according to information gathered from military sources. Two sources reported that, out of 26 female soldiers posted to the military base of the Multinational Joint Task Force, only eight have so far been accounted for.<br />

The commander of the troops in the area, Colonel Kuti, has also not been found since the insurgents attacked the town on Saturday. Residents of Baga explained that Boko Haram insurgents invaded their town and killed not less than 55 people, including soldiers attached to MNJTF. Both residents and security sources said the insurgent attack lasted about 18 hours before the Islamist terrorists overpowered the troops and seized the military base.<br />

One military source said the attack took them by surprise. He said the troops made a gallant effort to repel the attack, but that hundreds of Islamist militants attacked the military base with high-calibre weapons. A resident revealed that the invading insurgents also burnt down some parts of the fishing town.<br />

Bukar Kaka, a fisherman who fled from the town, said no fewer than 50 villagers, including five soldiers, were killed while others sustained wounds in the attacks. He said he saw soldiers fleeing. A military source disclosed that some fleeing sources were headed for Monguno barracks near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.<br />

The fisherman said Boko Haram militants sacked the troops from the barracks, as the soldiers fled into various locations. “A lot of us found ourselves in the bush. In fact some of them removed their uniforms,” said Mr. Kaka.<br />
<br />
A security source said the insurgent invaders also stormed other neighbouring communities, shooting indiscriminately at people. He added that the militants destroyed hundreds of houses and shops, often using fuel and other explosive devices.<br />

The militant group Boko Haram has seized a town and key multinational military base in north-eastern Nigeria, officials and eyewitnesses say. According to reports, a senator in Borno state said troops had absconded from the base in the town of Baga after it was attacked on Saturday.<br />

Residents of Baga, who fled by boat to neighbouring Chad, said many people had been killed and the town set ablaze.<br />

Baga, scene of a Nigerian army massacre in 2013, was the last town in the Borno-North area under government control. It hosted the base of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), made up of troops from Nigeria, Chad and Niger.<br />
<br />
Set up in 1998 to fight trans-border crime in the Lake Chad region, the force more recently took on Boko Haram. Boko Haram attacks towns and villages on an almost daily basis, abducting people including young boys and girls, BBC reports.<br />
<br />
Residents who fled to Chad said they had woken to heavy gunfire as militants stormed Baga early on Saturday, attacking from all directions. They said they had decided to flee when they saw the MNJTF troops running away.<br />
<br />
Maina Maaji Lawan, senator for Borno-North, told BBC World Service civilians had run "helter skelter" - "some into the forest, some into the desert". Communications with the town were cut off and exact information about casualty numbers could not be confirmed, he said.<br />

Two German nationals lost their lives in Nigeria after being shot, a foreign ministry official has said.<br />
The victims, who were both engineers with major construction company, Julius Berger, were reportedly riding on a motorcycle in Abuja when they were gunned down.<br />
<br />
“Unfortunately we can confirm that two German nationals were killed in Nigeria” a foreign ministry spokesman told AFP.<br />
“The German embassy in Abuja is seeking clarification and is in close contact with Nigerian authorities,” the spokesperson added.<br />

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar representing Islamic body, Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has advised Muslims in the country to defend themselves against attacks by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.<br />
<br />
Speaking on behalf of the JNI, the Sultan Alhaji Abubakar said it had become obvious that the Federal Government was incapable of dealing with the insurgents.<br />
<br />
In a communiqué signed by the JNI’s Secretary-General, Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu, the Sultan read:  “That Muslims are strongly urged to defend themselves, in appropriate manner against any attack by insurgents and all other acts of violence by criminals, as it is a religious obligation to do so, particularly that government forces currently seem to be incapable,”<br />
Evaluating the government's efforts in halting the activities of insurgents, the Islamic body said the government had failed and was indeed incapable of tackling the Boko Haram members.<br />
The communiqué was the outcome of a one-day stakeholders’ meeting on “the security situation in the country,” organised by the JNI.<br />
